A bivy bag or a tarp of some kind is essential for backcountry emergencies!  We suggest that you look for one that is durable, lightweight and with grommets.  Water and windproof is very important.

PLEASE NOTE:  The material in this bag is not highly breathable.   Before climbing in to take shelter be sure to shake off and remove as much snow as possible.  The condensation will be greater in situations with colder air temperatures.  Ideally learn how to build a safe and functional snowcave to escape from the weather and maintain a comfortable temperature of ~0*C.

For the price this Pieps Bivy is an excellent bag with very useful features.  

Should you prefer a bag built from higher performance materials do your research and expect to spend ~ $300.
